Chartres Chaussettes

DESCRIPTION
Vibrant colours reminiscent of light through stained glass, steep Gothic arches, and sharp Medieval lines all brought together; much like the French cathedral Notre-Dame de Chartres. Luckily, these socks don’t take 100 years to knit, nor do they require their own bishop.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Foot circumference: 5.5″ – 6.5″ (6.5″ – 7.5″, 7.5″ – 8.5″, 8.5 – 9.5″, 9.5″ – 10.5″) inches.

MATERIALS

50 (100, 100, 150, 150) grams of sock yarn
Set of 5 US DPNS to achieve gauge (I used US 2/ 2.75 mm)
Tapestry needle
Stitch markers
Crochet hook (I used a size C / 2.75 mm)

GAUGE

A: 19 sts = 2 inches in stockinette
B: 17= sts = 2 inches in stockinette
C: 15 sts = 2 inches in stockinette
D: 14 sts = 2 inches in stockinette
E: 12 sts = 2 inches in stockinette

CREDIT
The instep lace pattern, is a slightly modified version of the traditional “Smiling Diamonds”. The heel pattern is known as “German Ribbing”. Both patterns can be found in Barbara Walker’s A Treasury of Knitting Patterns. I made up the cuff pattern. The charts were made using the program KnitChart. I took all the photos of the socks on my feet, which is probably obvious, anyway.
