“fyberduck”?

My handle, “fyberduck”, comes from the mascot of my alma mater (the University of Oregon), Donald Duck. The blog’s title, “the qfa”, is an acronym for “the quacking fiber addict”. I’ve always loved ducks and when I fell into knitting and spinning and weaving at the UO’s Craft Center and Fiber Arts Studios, the name created itself. I started this blog 3 years ago as a means to keep in touch with some friends who had already graduated from Uni and moved far, far away. Now I just keep writing out of habit and because it’s fun.

I graduated from the UO in 2006 with a B.A. in Classical Civilization and a Minor in Latin, which is why there are sporadic bursts of archaic, and dead, languages around the site. For the most part, I try to keep it to a minimum. It’s still on my list of options to go to grad school and write a too-long dissertation on Roman Textiles.

Other stuff about me? I’m a Sagittarius and I was born in the year of the Rat.

Are you still reading this?

Alright, I am also an unemployed Peace Corps nominee (I work F/T for Knit/ Purl and as a designer for ShiBuiKnits), at least until the U.S. government gets it’s act together and realizes what a cool volunteer I’m gonna make. Or I get accepted to Business School. Or some sort of grad school.

That’s about all anyone really needs to know.

  1. Hey Sara,

found you through the Harlot. Can you please tell me what the Discworld swap is all about, and what knitted stuff it includes? I am a major Pratchett fan and have been trying to think of a way to combine my love for the Discworld with my love of knitting…

    thanks!
    Cat.
